About Fighting Spam

January 28th, 2007 by Basil

We've implemented some steps to help fight spam.

Comment Locking

By default, older posts have comments locked after two conditions are met: the post is 120 days old, and no comments have been posted for 60 days (whichever is later).

However, while these are the default settings, you can adjust them … or turn them off.

Akismet

Akismet is the default spam filter that comes with standard WordPress. ItsAPundit.com has a Pro-Blogger account with Automattic, the makers of Akismet (and WordPress). You don't need to do anything to use Akismet. It's already working.

Spam Karma 2

ItsAPundit also offers Spam Karma 2 to help control spam. Spam Karma 2 (SK2) is an anti-spam plugin for the WordPress blogging platform. It is meant to stop all forms of automated Blog spam effortlessly, while remaining as unobtrusive as possible to regular commenters.

If you want the extra protection you get from Spam Karma 2, just activate it via the Plugins tab.

Stopping comment and TrackBack spam: Just another way we're trying to make blogging easier.
